Firehouse Halloween Costume Party (expired event)

 That's right, next Thurs. Oct. 27th will be our Firehouse Halloween Costume Party with LIVE MUSIC from one of my favorite dance bands, THE BIG MO BAND featuring vocalist David "Big Mo" Mosby (pictured above). The band will be performing a special musical tribute to the late great singer Lou Rawls that will keep you groovin' all night long. Plus we will also be having a surprise NON-swing dance performance that will make your jaws drop. Be there for all the fun!
The theme for this year's costume party: SUPERVILLAINS AND SUPERHEROES. The leads are encouraged to dress up as their favorite villains, and the follows are encouraged to dress up as their favorite heroes. (Note: I didn't say men or women, so let your costume determine your role on the social dance floor.) Villains/heroes can be based on characters in books, movies or real life OR...
...you can just come in any random costume and make up your own superpower and --...

The Balboa Park Dancers are having a big Oct 29 Halloween Dance with Ray Barrie Orchestra playing from 6:30-10:30 at Balboa Park Club (doors open at 6:15).
Semi-formal, vintage or Halloween Costume. $10 ($8 Members).

Nathan James is down for a rare San Diego County performance at the newly remodeled Kava Gallery (next door to the Kava Lounge). He will be playing three long sets of good old-fashioned acoustic blues at 8:30p, 9:30p, and 10:30p. Sun. Oct. 16th. 8p-12a. $10. 18-and-up. JUST ADDED: There will also be a FREE Intro-to-Blues-Dancing class with Firemark and Bryant at 8p before the LIVE MUSIC, so please arrive early!

THIS Saturday from 2pm-5pm. Roheven and David Francis will be splitting DJ duties - so come ready to hear a rockin', swingin' mix of stuff you can move your feet to!
Spread the word and let folks know about the 2-5pm time. We'll be stopping right at 5pm cuz Jeff has a party to get to.

 THIS THURS. OCT. 13TH, don't miss a very special performance at the Firehouse as our beginning swing class performs a Lindy routine to "Flat Foot Floogie" they learned in just 5 weeks! Most of them had never danced in their lives before, so it's quite an impressive feat. Come cheer on the future of Lindy Hop in SD!
Following the performance, we are also going to have our first-ever Firehouse Beginner's Welcome Jam (taken from SONH). It starts like any other jam, with all the beginning students in the middle of the circle, BUT instead of dancers leaving the circle to cut in, the dancers will wait on the edge of the circle until the moderator (most likely me) calls "Change Partners". At this point, the beginning dancers must choose a new partner from an enthusiastic circle of dancers who are gesturing wildly and yelling as loudly as possible "Pick Me! Pick Me!"
It's much easier to demonstrate then explain in words. Just be sure to...

We now have another opportunity to Lindy Bomb Henry's on a different night. Lady Dottie and the Diamonds is a down home blues band (not the bump and grind kind of blues) that is VERY danceable. A small group (so far) is going check it out tomorrow night. Come join us! The band plays from 10:30-1:30. See you tomorrow night!
