Blue Bella will be transformed to "My Bloody Valentine" this Friday the 13th of February. Dress up and the person who best personifies the theme will win the costume contest. Winner receives a certificate for free dinner at Ciao Bella.

I've heard from a lot of swing dancers that they're interested in learning tango moves. There are actually quite a few events including 'Tangoed up in Blues' run by Mihai in San Francisco, where tango & blues are fused. I
consulted with what I consider two of San Diego's best tango teachers: Isabelle & Florentino and they agreed to teach tango moves that can be applied to dancing blues. For more information about Isabelle & Florentino, please see their website, http://www.tangoconcepts.com/about.html

Schedule:
8:45-9:00 Basics of blues & soul dance taught by Elizabeth
9:00-9:45 Tango moves for blues dance taught by Isabelle & Florentino
9;45- 12:.. (or as late as 1 if enough people stay late) DJs including
Alyson Plys of 2plyswing

$5.00 cover starts at 10:00pm this Friday because of the later class.

Thanks to all of you who made it out last month for our 2 year anniversary. The Fremonts were awesome, & special thanks to so many of you who made it for your first Blue Bella, including Sam, and Brian Newbegin. That special low price for the band was to give you all a thank you for supporting us these last 2 years, and the entrance fee went straight to them.

Next Blue Bella is this Friday, July 10th w/ Bonnie as main DJ, starting at 9:30. Class at 9:00. I just returned from Austin Blues Party so I'll be showing you all some of what I did out there. $3 class + dance, $5 just dance. 20% discount on food if you are going to Blue Bella, but cover still applies even if you eat.

What I'm planning is to have bands every month or at least every other month if we can have a consistent showing of 30+ people.

Brick then Vaughan will be DJ'ing, ~9:45pm- 12:30am...

Do you have friends who you think will like Blue Bella but they're not
willing to commit to paying just yet? Well, friends new-to-Blue-Bella

Bella, then it's 2 for 1. It's our little Christmas/Holiday gift to

Lesson: This month, we are presenting Carolina Shag, another style you
can dance to blues & soul music. If you took the classes taught by
Damon Stone & Liz Stone last October, his "From Lindy Hop to Soul
Swing" class was all Carolina Shag. Dave Carroll will be teaching
Carolina Shag at both Blue Bella dances this month, and as a
progressive if enough people show interest in that.

Usual schedule:
9:00-9:30/45 Lesson. This month, taught by Dave Carroll.
9:30/45-12:30 or so DJ'd music.

Upcoming dances:
Dec. 4, 11, & Jan. 15. *Our usual January schedule is being changed
due to the New Year celebration, & SD Fusion Exchange. In February &
beyond, we are back to our normal schedule, 1st & 2nd Fridays.

We're having another awesome Blue Bella blues & soul dance TONIGHT, Friday, Jan. 15th from 9pm til 12:30. It's the 3rd Friday this month because of SDFX the weekend before.

DANCE LESSON 9:00 pm: The lesson tonight will simply be those who attended last week's San Diego Fusion Exchange sharing what they learned. Should be fun!

DANCE 9:30pm-12:30 am. Tonight's featured DJ is Whitton Frank!! Whitton is the house DJ at DoSomethingBlue, and also guest djs at various events in and around Los Angeles. She began teaching blues dancing with Tim O'Neill in September 2008. Since then they have started a set of weekly blues lessons called the Blues Kitchen in Sherman Oaks, LA every Wednesday night.

COST: It's complicated. General Admission is $5. However, if you take the class at 9pm it's only $3 for the entire evening and class. But wait...there's more! If you attended this past weekend's San Diego Fusion Echange AND take the lesson at 9pm tonight for you is FREE!! Of course, Ciao Bella Restorante serves amazing Italian food so feel free to come by early for dinner and drinks.

Ok, we have some pretty cool news.... Starting our Valentines weekend right:
If you've never heard of him before, you will now:
John Croft DJs blues/soul/etc all over the country w/ Vinyl records! So, looks like he'll be able to DJ for us tomorrow!!
It'll be:
Brick Robbins (who DJ'd the SDfusion exchange): 9:30-10:30-ish
John Croft w/ his Vinyls & turn table: 10:30-ish to close ~12:30 or 1am

Usual Cover: $5.00 all night (no class)
Schedule: There is a Cabaret show beforehand w/ dinner @ Ciao Bella (separate & not included)...
Then, there is Blue Bella blues/soul/etc swing dance. We're going to start before or at 9:30- asap whenever the show is over.
NO Class. If there are overwhelming requests, I'll do a mini-lesson.

he'll be doing a hypnotist act during one of the band breaks! Should
be lots of fun!! He's starting when the class starts, at 9, for those
of you who want to get in on it early, and almost until the end of the
dance.
